JWT licensing
We sign a license JWT with HMAC-SHA256 (stdlib only — no Java in the runtime). License covers products, seat count, expiry. Verify locally; no phone-home.

Air-gap supported
Self-host runs without outbound internet. The LLM tier accepts an Ollama or Claude-via-private-network endpoint; the rest of the engine is fully offline. Updates ship as a tarball.

First-run wizard
Hit /setup on a fresh install — provision the first admin user + first org + entitlements in one form. After that, AVA staff manage provisioning out-of-band.

Same product, same updates
Self-host customers get the same release cadence as cloud. We tag a docker image per release; you decide when to pull. Rolling back is reverting the tag.
